Other Effects of TRH In normal individuals, TRH has no influence on pituitary hormone secretion other than on TSH and on prolactin secretion. It can, however, stimulate release of ACTH in patients with Cushing's synndrome; and GH in acromegalics (Fig. 1.14). The ‘paradoxical’ GH response is a useful indicator of acromegaly (occurring in 70% of patients) and of the state of remission after therapy. TRH also releases GH in some patients with depression.
